EVANSTON RESIDENCE
Chicago, IL  |  2014

The approach for this project was to question the notion of the obvious “modern box” addition. The client needed to expand their kitchen space and create a new master suite. The design re-interprets the farmhouse ‘style’ into a spaciously sculpted interior volume. The sculpted nature of this design is best realized in the master suite with its light filled dramatically shaped space.

The original balloon-framed residence’s energy performance was significantly improved while the addition greatly surpassed all energy code requirements providing R-40 insulation at its walls and roof. The composite slate shingles provided the desired singular material for roof and wall while playing into the notion that this was a modern farmhouse.
